Who is the LISTEN intervention for?
The LISTEN intervention is designed for people over 18 years old and who have been experiencing long Covid symptoms (e.g., fatigue, breathlessness, cognitive difficulty) for 12 weeks or more. You do not need to have had a positive Covid-19 test, but to take part, you should have experience symptoms consistent with Covid-19 (e.g., loss of smell/taste).
What was the aim of developing the LISTEN intervention?
People with long Covid can experience a wide variety of ongoing physical, mental, and social challenges which means they can struggle to feel like themselves and engage in their everyday lives. This has been made worse by the uncertainty of the condition, the disbelief of others and the lack of understanding from some health care professionals.
The LISTEN intervention was developed to provide and evaluate a personalised package of support to help people gain more confidence, knowledge, and skills to navigate their everyday life with long Covid.

How was the LISTEN intervention designed?
The LISTEN intervention was co-designed by 30 people living with long Covid and health care professionals with experience of supporting others with long Covid. During the co-design, we were guided by people with long Covid, and we discussed their experiences, their needs, and their preferences.
What is involved in the LISTEN intervention?
If you chose to get involved in the LISTEN project, you will be allocated either to the LISTEN intervention or to your local site’s usual long Covid care group.
The LISTEN intervention is a package of support comprised of two key parts. The first is the LISTEN book resource which contains stories, experiences, strategies, and advice from people living with long Covid. The second is a series of one-to-one personalised sessions with a healthcare professional who has taken part in our LISTEN training course. The same practitioner will work with you across the remote six sessions using either Zoom, Microsoft Teams or by telephone.
If you are allocated to the usual care group, you will be able to receive the LISTEN intervention book resource after you finish taking part in the research. You will also have a very important role in helping us understand the types of usual long Covid service that are being provided across England and Wales and the effectiveness of this.
